US President Joe Biden is meeting British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Northern Irish political leaders in Belfast this morning, kicking off a three-day tour with a speech to mark the 25th anniversary of Northern Ireland's 1998 peace deal. Biden will spend just over half a day in the UK region before travelling to the Republic of Ireland for two-and-a-half days of speeches and meetings.
Iran has used earthquake relief flights to bring weapons and military equipment into Syria, nine Syrian, Iranian, Israeli and Western sources said. The sources told Reuters that the goal was to buttress Iran's defenses against Israel in Syria and to strengthen Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Comments by French President Emmanuel Macron on Taiwan are puzzling, a senior Taiwanese politician said. "Are 'liberté, égalité, fraternité' out of fashion?" parliament speaker You Si-kun wrote on Facebook. Macron cautioned against being drawn into a crisis over Taiwan driven by an "American rhythm and a Chinese overreaction". His officials were in damage control mode after the comments.

Ukraine war

Serbia, the only country in Europe that has refused to sanction Russia, agreed to supply arms to Kyiv or has sent them already, according to one among dozens of classified documents posted online in recent weeks. Serbia's Defense Minister Milos Vucevic dismissed the intel as "untrue" in a statement. Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the United States will "turn over every rock" to find the source of the recent leak.
Ukraine compared Russia to the Islamic State (IS), after a video emerged online showing apparent Russian soldiers filming themselves beheading a Ukrainian captive with a knife. "There will be legal responsibility for everything. The defeat of terror is necessary," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said. The Kremlin described the video as "awful" but said its authenticity needed to be checked. Follow the latest on the war.

And Finally...

Mexican archaeologists found a circular-shaped Mayan scoreboard, in this handout picture released on April 10, 2023. INAH/Handout via REUTERS

A stone scoreboard used in an ancient soccer-like ball game has been discovered at the famed Mayan Chichen Itza archaeological site in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. The circular piece dates from between 800 AD and 900 AD. The ball game was a traditional practice of Mesoamerican peoples and is believed to have had ritual undertones.
