Tension mounts over Ukraine missiles

No, no, yes: Russia took some swipes at Ukraine's friends as British PM Keir Starmer and President Joe Biden met in what most observers see as a crucial step toward allowing Ukraine to use Western long-range weapons against Russian forces. Here's why they see it that way. Experts say Vladimir Putting could order a nuclear test as a way of telling the West how he feels about those missiles.
Weapons and goods: Russia started producing a new long-range attack drone called the Garpiya-A1 last year using Chinese engines and parts, which it has deployed in the war in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin asked his prime minister to find ways to limit exports of strategic commodities in response to Western sanctions, perplexing Russian officials and company managers.

'I think it was one of my better debates, maybe my best debate'

Rebuttal: Donald Trump's view of his debate performance against Kamala Harris, apparently never to be repeated, is not the same as that of many other Republicans. Taylor Swift boosted Kamala Harris' presidential campaign with her endorsement. Will that bring out the vote? Haitians in the U.S. fear for their safety after Trump's amplification of false rumors that immigrants are eating people's pets. Trump pledged to deport them from Springfield, Ohio, even though most of them are in the U.S. legally.

Boeing tries to put a lid on a union strike

Let's talk… or not: Boeing's CFO said the strike is a concern for production, delivery and finances, and that the walkout of more than 30,000 employees will make it harder for the company to meet production goals for its 737 MAX jets. Nike shareholders voted against a proposal to consider joining binding agreements with supply-chain workers to better address human-rights problems.
Succession and power: The Murdochs are going to court to determine the future of News Corp., specifically which of the family's children will have anything to say about it. A hedge fund proposed eliminating the dual-class share structure that preserves Rupert Murdoch's control of the company. And Couche-Tard picked up an extra headache in its bid to buy the Japan-based parent company of 7-Eleven. The finance ministry deemed the company core to the nation's national security.

Lawsuit: Keurig Dr Pepper agreed to pay a $1.5 million fine to settle SEC charges that it made inaccurate statements regarding the recyclability of its K-Cup pods.
No filter: Starbucks' new CEO said the company must do better, particularly in the U.S., at making its customers' visits to stores less transactional and turning its locations into more of a "community coffeehouse".

- An opinion poll showed that Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party would form the largest single party in parliament if an election were held now, underlining a gradual recovery since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks last year.
- TikTok and its parent company have a key court hearing on Monday as they try to block a law that could ban the app in the United States.
- Charging the parents of juvenile school shooters may do little to deter future shootings and could lead to prosecuting parents over other misdeeds that their children commit, columnist Jenna Greene writes.
- A baby-bottle maker said microplastics are inescapable and their health risks unproven in a bid to get a lawsuit dismissed. Another lawsuit claims Trojan condoms contain forever chemicals. And Yale University settled claims filed by patients of its fertility clinic that they underwent painful egg-retrieval procedures without painkillers because a nurse had stolen their fentanyl.
- Two European tourist and expat hot spots are trying different approaches to make housing affordable for their citizens. Greece will offer tax breaks to homeowners who convert their rentals to long term from short. Portugal is simply creating more supply by budgeting more than $2 billion to build 33,000 homes by the end of the decade.
- Someone stole the British crime minister's handbag during a police conference.
