- The European Union said it would respond with "firm and proportionate countermeasures" after US President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports, escalating fears of a trade war.

China has forged nearly two-dozen pacts with African nations in its bid to surpass the US in space.
