Thursday Morning Briefing: Sun isn't shining for U.S. solar after Trump tariffs

Trump’s tariff on imported solar panels has led U.S. renewable energy companies to cancel or freeze investments of more than $2.5 billion in large installation projects, the developers told Reuters. Mexican tariffs are roiling U.S. congressional campaigns in states where U.S. exporters could take a hit and Trump’s Republicans face tough races in November congressional elections.

The Supreme Court is due to rule by the end of June on the contentious practice called partisan gerrymandering in which state legislators draw electoral maps designed to entrench their own party in power, but states in growing numbers already are taking action to rein in the politicians.
