KAKHOVKA DAM BREACH

Floodwaters in southern Ukraine were expected to crest today, with tens of thousands of civilians fleeing in peril from the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam. Residents waded through streets carrying children on their shoulders, dogs in their arms and belongings in plastic bags while rescuers used rubber boats to search areas where the waters reached above head height.
Kyiv and Moscow have blamed each other for the collapse of the dam, which has muddied the picture for a much-awaited Ukrainian counteroffensive and threatens an environmental disaster. A state of emergency has been imposed in parts of Ukraine's Kherson region. Here's everything we know so far.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had an "open, candid" conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about a wide range of bilateral issues, a US official said.

Pope Francis will have surgery on his abdomen this afternoon at Rome's Gemelli hospital, the Vatican said in a statement, adding he was expected to spend several days in hospital.
